THE TACKROOM
The stallions at The Spanish Riding School of Vienna have at least 2 sets of tack. They have traditional English leather dressage saddle and bridle that has a simple drop noseband, with a Fulmer snaffle bit. The saddles are professionally fitted to each horse by the in-house saddler, and no saddles are ever shared.
During the show, for the evening performance the stallions wear traditional white “school saddles”. These are made from white buckskin and are larger than the English saddles used for training. Their performance bridles are also made from white leather and brass, and are double bridles with two bits. The double bridle is only worn by the highly trained stallions. The tack is cleaned after every use.
There are two special bridles that can be identified as they are made from red leather. These bridles are made with pure gold fittings and are only worn by the very best stallions for work “In-hand”.
